Queensland police deputy commissioner Paul Taylor has resigned after lewd comments made at conferences with the top brass were aired during an inquiry on Thursday.
The Independent Commission of Inquiry into the Queensland Police Service Response to Domestic and Family Violence on Thursday heard that two officers had made comments at two conferences earlier this year, attended by some of the highest-ranking officers in the state.to the master of ceremonies at a conference attended by about 100 QPS staff.
“The public should have confidence that this is a great organisation, with terrific people who care so much about the community across the vast state,” he wrote. QPS Commissioner Katarina Carroll was grilled over the comments on Thursday at the inquiry, and said they were “deeply disrespectful” and misogynistic.
“I don’t know how it was mentioned in the speech, but the person is a friend of the deputy, and he himself, and I believe the circles he operates in, call him that. That’s the context of what the conversation was.”
