A desperate search is underway for a man missing in crocodile-infested waters off the far north Queensland coast. Adam Yunkaporta, 60, was seen leaving his home about midday on Thursday to go fishing near the mouth of the Ward, Watson and Archer rivers in Aurukun. He has not been seen or heard from since. Police, State and Emergency Service volunteers, helicopters, drones, and a wildlife ranger were sent to the region to help in the search on Saturday and Sunday.
Community members have also joined in the search, which recommenced about 7am on Monday and will continue until nightfall, according to police. “Searches are being conducted near the boat ramp, as well as towards the north and south of the area,” police said. “Assets include foot patrols on land, boats to search the river and aerial support from drones and a helicopter.” Adam is described as a First Nations person with brown eyes and dark short hair.
