Despite outbreak, NSW sees record high measles vaccination rate in toddlers | Kaubo
Herd immunity - where a large proportion of a population is immune to infection - provides a level of indirect protection to vulnerable people unable to be vaccinated and helps to prevent the spread of infectious diseases.
Since 2015, the Commonwealth's 'No Jab No Pay' policy has prevented families of children who were not fully vaccinated from receiving the childcare rebate, as well as the childcare and family tax benefits. "Vaccination rates in NSW have been steadily climbing thanks to record investment in immunisation programs and these results confirm everyone’s hard work," Ms Law said."While this is fantastic news for the community, what the current national measles issue shows us is that parents can never be complacent when it comes to vaccination," she said.
NSW Health's director of communicable diseases, Dr Vicky Sheppeard, said the findings will help federal agencies to identify ways to further improve the Registrar.
