Callum Gossland, who lives with Functional Neurological Disorder and uses a wheelchair, says while additional investment in accessible bathrooms was 'positive', holding a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the opening of a new toilet was 'sensationalising supporting people that have special needs'.

Callum Gossland , who uses a wheelchair, said there are not enough accessible bathrooms for people with disabilities.

"The number of times that I've been caught out trying to get to somewhere, no matter how many times I looked at it in advance," he said. It is one of 21 'Changing Places' bathrooms installed in South Australia, with another one opening soon in Lobethal in the Adelaide Hills. But just weeks after it was officially opened inside the Burnside pool, the toilet was closed to the public until late September and will only be available for use when the pool re-opens.

"It's sensationalising supporting people that have special needs, disability, accessibility issues at the end of the day we are just people as well," he said.Ms Cook responded to the criticism and said it was important to "celebrate successes".
