A Papuan-Australian woman is calling out what she believes to be discriminatory and racist policies after she was turned away from a Brisbane nightclub over her cultural face tattoos.
James was celebrating her partner's birthday last week when she was denied entry by a security guard to the Hey Chica! nightclub in Brisbane's Fortitude Valley.Moale James, a proud Papua new Guinean- Australian woman called the blanket ban discriminatory and racist."He said 'No I can't let you in' and I said this isn't the time to start a fight so I went 'No worries'.
"The guy who served me, he wasn't Pacific Islander but there are so many bouncers who do have tattoos and I think obviously of all the other venues that I went into, they didn't have a problem with it," she said. James is considering contacting the Queensland Human Rights Commission about what she believes is cultural and racial discrimination.
