It is the suburb that Victorians love to hate. For many, Docklands is looked upon as a developers’ picnic. Nothing but a windswept piece of high-density real estate. But this outright dismissal of Docklands obscures both the reality of the area right now and the significant future potential that this precinct holds.

So how exactly could this look? Docklands Drive is already set up as a grand boulevard complete with tram line, established street trees and commercial tenancies at ground level, which would be perfect for a thriving row of bars, cafes and live music venues. Another opportunity lies in a few of the more isolated multi-level carparks that service the shopping precinct. Here there is little building that needs to occur at all, instead just a proactive council process to encourage and guide event organisers through the red tape that would otherwise prohibit such activity.
