Dr Greg Irwin, a consultant at the QEUH, has clashed with the group during previous protests outside his place of work, telling protestors they were upsetting patients and asking them to leave.

A doctor has slammed "cruel and misogynistic" anti-abortion protestors targeting healthcare facilities in Scotland.

Dr Irwin told the Record: "It’s really disappointing that protestors have yet again decided to target women in Glasgow seeking to access abortion healthcare. These women deserve to be treated with respect and compassion. If passed at Holyrood, the legislation will create 150 metre safe access zones around healthcare facilities offering abortion services.Ms Mackay said: “My heart, my support and my solidarity are with everyone who will have to face the gauntlet of protests and banners. You should not have had to go through it. My bill will ensure that nobody else has to.

“The levels of public and cross-party support I have received show the depth of feeling there is on this and the determination to get it done. “We are still hearing from multiple women weekly about the distress being caused whilst accessing legal abortion healthcare. It’s simply not good enough, and warm words from the government are of little comfort to the women who are running the gauntlet of these protestors everyday. We need buffer zones to be fast tracked through the Scottish Parliament now.”She said the Scottish Government must take urgent action as extreme groups have taken their 'harassment tactics' too far.

“Thanks to Back Off Scotland there is widespread support for buffer zones, but time has been wasted and more women and workers are being harassed.A statement to the Record from NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde said: "As a healthcare provider, our main priority is the wellbeing and safety of our patients. We also have to ensure the wellbeing and safety of our staff as they carry out their duties
