Forensic audio expert James Raper has claimed the ABC purposely relied on now-deleted footage it claimed showed Australian soldiers firing on civilians after the broadcaster announced an investigation into the"error".
Speaking to Sky News Australia on Monday, Mr Raper, who analysed the audio for Spotlight, explained he instantly knew something was wrong when he first listened to the clip."I almost thought surely something was wrong with my phone, but, as I later found out, it was edited." While Mr Raper did not suggest the journalists had any involvement, he told Sky News Australia he was certain the audio had been deliberately edited."I don't know if someone thought it might make it more interesting, which is a horrifying prospect to think about, but I do not that whether it came from the top, or someone in the production department or in the editing bay someone decided to do it, it had to be done on purpose.
" by the national broadcaster, with Mr Raper backing that call as he branded the ABC's conduct"disgusting".In an interview with Spotlight on Sunday, Mr Russell maintained he was not the soldier depicted in the ABC report and the network had omitted important context about the incident.
