Nine European countries are using trade talks as leverage for tax treaties with Australia, an outgoing envoy reveals.
A fresh headache to securing a free trade deal with the European Union is emerging, with nine European nations using talks as leverage to stop double taxation because of concerns it is deterring Australian investment in their countries.

All EU members bar Luxembourg now have a diplomatic presence in Australia, with Latvia and Lithuania opening missions in the past 12 months.
