Michigan State had the game-plan, the last-second shot and the occasionally kind whistle to beat Purdue. Will any Purdue foe get all three in March?
Michigan State snapped Purdue's three-game winning streak Saturday with a 68-65 victory at the Breslin CenterPurdue center Zach Edey is scoring on Michigan State, finishing alley-oops and backing down his defender and making it look easy, because it is easy. He’s 7-4 and 295 pounds, and you’re not. Edey is scoring and bellowing into the air, the sound a steam shovel might make, and the Spartans don’t care. Not enough to change their game plan.

Could’ve been a better day for Edey, too. He was too much for any of the centers who tried to stop him, scoring and roaring on 10 of his 15 attempts from the floor, but he had three of those turnovers on offensive fouls. All three seemed like 50-50 calls at most, Edey guilty primarily of being the biggest, strongest player on the court,“I feel like I shouldn’t answer that question,” Edey said afterward when asked how he kept his composure as the fouls mounted. “It’s just frustrating.
“That’s a big deal,” Painter saying, and this is just a snippet of his answer. “I grew up obviously in Indiana, and was it. He was the best coach in America … To pass an icon like that is huge — I mean, I grew up in Indiana, and I just thought him and Gene Keady, they’d be the coaches at IU and Purdue forever.”
