From LeBron to Kyrie, the premier pro-am hoops league has seen it all. So what's next?
“It took a lot of work just getting in contact with everybody from the ’70s all the way to the 2000s,” Chaniel Smiley said. “It took a lot of work to try to get in contact with them or their families, organizing and getting the jackets done and detailing that and exactly what it is that we wanted done. It was a team effort, obviously, but we made it happen, and the guys had a great time coming out. It was a reunion for most, and a lot of their family came out to support.
“I’ll take it to the house tonight, man; I ain’t taking it no further than that,” Moon said in the postgame locker room, still drenched in champagne. “I just love to hoop. I just love the game of basketball. So, anytime I get a chance to play, I put my all into it. It was a heartbreaking loss for Lemar “Black Pearl” Gayle, who has lost consecutive championships with Black Pearl Elite. Gayle won back-to-back championships as a player in the 2000s, one of them undefeated. He vows to bring the same level of competitiveness to his team as a coach that he did as a player.
“At this point, I feel, like, what more can we actually offer?” she said. “What everybody witnessed, especially with the NBA App and all over the world, what they saw, this is something special that you can’t duplicate — and people all over try to duplicate. Because of that, it’s deserving for us to at least have our own facility. I love King/Drew, this is my alma mater, but we could do so much more if we had our own facility. And that’s really the next step for the league.
