The fiery crash occurred Saturday afternoon on Route 55 in Gloucester County.
Franklin Diaz Sr., 31, of Camden, was driving north on Route 55 in Mantua Township shortly before 2 p.m. and “passing vehicles in the center grass median and left shoulder” when he struck another car, according to New Jersey State Police.An 8-year-old child in his vehicle, identified by authorities as Diaz’s son, died of his injuries.
An adult passenger and another juvenile in the vehicle were treated and released for their injuries, while Diaz remains hospitalized. In addition to vehicular homicide, he is charged with endangering the welfare of a child and causing death while driving with a suspended license, police said.
