Almost 3.4 million people in the UK are claiming PIP
An update on claim times for Personal Independence Payment has been issued by the Department for Work and Pensions. The process now takes 13 weeks for people applying for the first time, while those moving onto PIP from Disability Living Allowance will have to wait 16 weeks.
Claims from terminally ill people also take only three working days from initial registration to decision. For those who are being moved from Disability Living Allowance to PIP, the changeover process including a reassessment currently takes 16 weeks, far less than the 22 weeks at the same time last year.
"We are committed to improving how our decision-making processes work. Medical evidence from GPs and other healthcare professionals play an important part in decision-making.
