The AFL great posted the footage to his Instagram page, with an invitation for the perpetrators to speak with him personally.
Sporting legend Eddie Betts has pleaded for the right of Aboriginal children to play in peace, as distressing footage emerges of an extreme racist incident. In CCTV footage posted to Betts' Instagram, four children can be seen playing basketball within a fenced backyard. A white car drives past, and an occupant repeatedly yells an extreme slur, before driving away. "We are not even safe in our own homes," Betts wrote in the post's caption.
" Betts, who had a stellar AFL career playing for Adelaide and Carlton, has repeatedly called out the racism he experienced on and off the field. In 2020, Betts spoke out against racism after being the target of racial vilification online. He retired a year later. Despite the severity of the lastest incident, he nonetheless struck a conciliatory tone in his Instagram post.
