Australia’s men’s 4x100m freestyle medley team has broken the Commonwealth Games record to win the last gold medal on offer of Day 2 in the pool.
The men didn’t do it quite as easily as the women, but Kyle Chalmers still touched the wall 0.61 seconds ahead of England in second, while Canada was back in third. Teenager Flynn Southam led the Aussies off before Zac Incerti took the second leg. The Aussies had a clear lead at the half-way mark, but William Yang helped to consolidate it in the third leg, before superstar Chalmers brought it home.
Known for his ability to chase down a lead in the final leg, Chalmers told Channel 7’s Cate Campbell it was nice to jump in the water with a lead “for a change.” “All the boys did their job and as soon as I saw Flynn do his 48.5, I knew it was game over,” Chalmers said.Your cookie settings are preventing this third party content from displaying.
