When you create history like McKeon did in Tokyo, the intensity, expectation and pressure can only go one way. Bohl said the biggest call for McKeon was whether she was mentally ready to make the kind of deep commitment required to continue performing at such extraordinary levels.
“The only year that counts now is 2024. A lot can happen in two years. As good as she is, she has to improve in two years’ time if she wants to be on the podium in any capacity.” “I don’t have super high expectations, she’s only been back in the water for a few months. But she will be nice and solid here, she hasn’t swum long course since the Olympics,” Bohl said. “That’s 12 months. She swum some short course but that’s totally different.”
She could easily win all of her individual races, a result that would see her individual tally at Commonwealth Games increase to 12 after she won eight golds across Glasgow 2014 and Gold Coast 2018.That would put her ahead of Susie O’Neill, Leisel Jones and Ian Thorpe before relays are factored into the equation.
