Liberal frontbencher Simon Birmingham has lashed the Labor government for “backpedalling” on its promise to boost wages amid surging inflation.
Treasurer Jim Chalmers used his first economic statement in Parliament to lash the Coalition’s fiscal record.

The fault lies with a decade of wasted opportunities, wrong priorities and wilful neglect – that Australians are all now paying for,” Dr Chalmers said.
