ANALYSIS: English optimism gives way to a familiar tune as Australia races to thumping first Test victory
Against better-credentialed opponents, Australia has won each of its five day-night Tests at Adelaide Oval, with no team getting closer than New Zealand six years ago.
Having hinted at an 'either/or' approach, then leaving out Stuart Broad and Jimmy Anderson, England needs to play both in place of Leach and Chris Woakes. That secondment meant no start in the second-string side for 25-year-old Matt Parkinson, a stubbly, chirpy leg spinner from Bolton, who looks more Shane Meadows than Shane Warne, but does toss the ball up and gives it a big rip.In April, Parkinson bowled a 'ball of the century' clone. He has 102 first-class wickets at 23.35, but more importantly he possesses a novelty factor, and there is just something about him.
