Residents in a number of Queensland communities have been told to evacuate as dangerous bushfires bear down on them.

Fire crews are using a waterbombing aircraft to try to contain the large and fast-moving fire at Carneys Creek, in Brisbane’s Scenic Rim region.

On Wednesday afternoon it was travelling in west from Carneys Creek Road and pushing towards Chalk Road.It is one of around 70 fires burning across the state. Further north, police have made an emergency declaration on the Sunshine Coast around Peregian Springs because of a large bushfire threatening homes.Residents have been told to flee along Murdering Creek Road onto the Sunshine Motorway and travel in a south-westerly direction towards Coolum.Three people have been injured fighting fires across regional Queensland in the past day.

A 60-year-old woman at the same property has burns to her face and airway, while another male in his 50s suffered respiratory issues.
