US correspondent Michael Ware says “the entire west coast of America is ablaze" and is inflicting the greatest damage on California, Oregon and Washington State as the fires stretch from northern California up to the Canadian border. Mr Ware said there were at least 100 major fires at present in the United States which had resulted in 33 deaths and dozens of people reported missing.
“Among the dead was a 16-year-old boy who was trying to escape a fire and his car was overrun, a 13-year-old who tried to run away from a fire and a little one-year-old baby,” he said. “These are historic level fires ... and authorities say they expect them to keep burning until the winter rains fall.” Mr Ware said Oregon was in the process of preparing for a mass casualty incident and Portland and Seattle had experienced the world’s worst air quality.
