Essendon coach and former AFL football boss Brad Scott has taken aim at the sub rule after his team’s thrilling draw with Collingwood on Anzac Day. Scott became frustrated during the pulsating final quarter when young key forward Harrison Jones had to be assessed for concussion.

Brad Scott takes aim at AFL’s sub rule. Jones was involved in a clash of heads with Collingwood big man Darcy Cameron, and had blood streaming from his nose when he left the field. Medical staff cleared the 23-year-old of any significant damage, but when a player is being assessed, he cannot return to the field for at least 15 minutes, even if no concussion symptoms are detected. The AFL previously had a sub rule, but it was unpopular, particularly among players, and eventually scrapped.
