Foreign minister Marise Payne confirms "every single effort" will be made to find the two people missing, eight days after New Zealand's White Island volcano erupted. The foreign minister held back tears as she offered her thoughts to the families of the victims this week.
“I don’t think anyone of us can begin to imagine what those families are facing in the coming weeks and months,” she said. “Our hearts and thoughts are with them every step of the way.” The official death toll stands at 16, with two others presumed dead – local tour guide Hayden Marshall-Inman, 40, and Australian teenager Winona Langford, 17. The search for the pair has been put on hold while recovery crews are faced with poor weather conditions.
