'Everything is breaking down': AFL great slams Bombers performance agerealfooty
Essendon great Tim Watson was unsurprised by the Bombers' dismal round one performance against GWS given their pre-season performance, saying "everything is breaking down".
"Their [pre-season] had been terrible ... they were not getting right whatever it was they were trying to implement at the time," a frustrated Watson told Channel Seven'sHe cited the the , borrowing from the successful Tigers template, which he'd seen "no evidence" of in the team's JLT games or their round one showing."Effort, that's the starting point. Then you look at organisation, execution, perseverence, adapability, and their fitness - John Worsfold touched on it post game, he said, 'everything has gone wrong'. They've got to fix everything.
The team's troubles were nothing they couldn't come back from but would take "a hell of a lot of work", he said. Watson singled out Essendon midfielder Zach Merrett for putting in a "token effort", especially in the first quarter."That is not AFL standard. There is not a coach in the competition that would accept that as effort."
