Christopher McGowan, 28, was convicted of the murder of 28-year-old mum-of-one Claire Inglis at her home in Cultenhove Crescent, St Ninians, Stirling, in November 2021 - leaving her with at least 76 injuries.
An evil murderer who battered and strangled a Stirling mother-of-one, choked her with a baby wipe, and burned her with a lighter as she lay dead or dying, was yesterday facing a life sentence for her brutal killing.
After a trial lasting seven days at the High Court in Stirling, a jury of nine women and six men took less than two hours to find him guilty of Claire’s murder.Shouts of “yes” and weeping from the public benches greeted the verdict.Judge Michael O’Grady KC told him: “Those of us who practise in these courts have the misfortune to hear daily of the dreadful things that human beings do to one to another.
Only weeks earlier he had been released from prison, where he had been remanded on charges including dangerous driving following a high-speed police pursuit.A sheriff, who was told that a social inquiry report identified McGowan had a “new girlfriend”, their relationship was “positive”, and he was “motivated to stay out of trouble and come off alcohol and Valium”, bailed him to Claire’s address.
Four of the five bail orders that McGowan was on were granted within little more than two months of Claire’s murder. A pathologist found she had “at least” 76 separate injuries, including bleeding inside her skull, extensive injuries to her neck, two black eyes, and “petechial haemorrhaging”, a tell-tale sign of strangulation.
