The soldier who was inside the Tesla Cybertruck that exploded outside a Trump International Hotel in Las Vegas this week suffered a gunshot wound to the head before the explosion. Matthew Livelsberger, the man officials believe carried out the New Year’s Day attack, was found with a handgun at his feet, US officials have said at a press conference. On Thursday, Clark County Sheriff Kevin McMahill confirmed at a news conference that a handgun had been found.
The explosion of the truck, packed with firework mortars and camp fuel canisters, came hours after 42-year-old Shamsud-Din Bahar Jabbar rammed a truck into a crowd in New Orleans’ famed French Quarter early on New Year’s Day. The act killed at least 15 people and injuring dozens more before being shot to death by police. Both Livelsberger and Jabbar spent time at the base formerly known as Fort Bragg, a massive army base in North Carolina that is home to multiple army special operations units.
