A 20-year-old man has serious head injuries from assault that a detective says is “in one of the worst categories of assault I’ve seen in a long time”.

Police have seized knives and baseball bats on a western Sydney street after an alleged episode of “extreme” violence left a 20-year-old man in hospital with serious head injuries.

Police on had declared the street a crime scene, and were seen collecting knives and baseball bats and bagging them for evidence. “The level of violence was extreme, the injuries suffered to the primary victim is in one of the worst categories of assault I’ve seen in a long time,” Peroni said.
