The family of a man who died after a brutal group assault are calling for an overhaul of the justice system. 9News | Nightly at 6.00pm
He faced one count of grievous bodily harm in Brisbane's Supreme Court.
The sentence was suspended from today - meaning he'll be released from custody as soon as the paperwork is signed.Outside court, Justin Towers' sister expressed her family's frustration, calling for changes to the justice system. "Enough is enough, the justice system needs to have a complete overhaul and it needs to be done now," Zara Warneke told 9News."I know we are not alone there are hundreds, if not thousands of families who are also serving a life sentence for the loss of their loved ones.
"This has to stop. There needs to be a change, the sentence for a crime needs to not only act as a punishment but also a deterrent." Justin's mum Shirlene Towers, who wears a pendant with her son's image, said her son is missed "every day".
