The son of a former teacher jailed today for killing his mother and estranged wife, said his sentence sends a strong message about domestic violence. 9News

The verdict came after the court heard Edwards was enraged and jealous his estranged wife had found love with her old football coach Billy Mills.

When sentencing Edwards, judge Justice Robert Allan Hulme said Mrs Edwards had had an affair with Mr Mills during her marriage, but it later ended, before the pair reconnected on Facebook.The former teacher made an emotional appeal, saying his wife had gone missing.When sentencing, Judge Justice Robert Allan Hulme said an "extraordinary series of lies" was behind had happened to Mrs Edwards on March 14, 2015.

He then put her body in his ute, and drove north towards Lawrence, which has swamps and bushland where a body could be hidden.The next morning, he went to her school to see if she had turned up, before reporting her missing.A later media appeal saw him tearfully appeal for help.
