Susanne Clarke's son was killed at a notorious intersection. She's behind a push to have it fixed in his memory.
Tenterfield Shire Council says it has been calling for upgrades of the Old Ballandean Road and the Bruxner Highway intersection for years. Transport for NSW has begun a safety investigation of the site and is looking at different solutions.
His family believe a reduction in the 100 kph speed limit could have resulted in a different outcome.At Tenterfield Shire Council's February meeting Mayor Bronwyn Petrie called on the state government for an urgent speed reductions and redesigns of the site."The previous government did install some safety signage … but it still needs a lot more work."
"Transport for NSW can do those things straight away. Council can't. It has to go through traffic committee," she said.Six crashes in five yearsNorth Region director Anna Zycki said one of the fact in those crashes was "a failure to give away" while turning out of Old Ballandean Road."In the short-term, we are looking at things like warning signage, that are larger and provides people with more warning," she said.
"We certainly look carefully … whenever there is a crash history or a fatality in that location, to make sure speed is not one of the factors when there is a crash."
