Residents in Far North Queensland are facing heavy rain and flooding as a slow-moving tropical system persists. Up to a meter of rain is predicted between now and Monday, prompting evacuations and road closures. The system has a potential to intensify into a cyclone, posing further risks of severe weather and heavy rainfall. Authorities urge residents to stay informed and prepared for potential impacts.

We ask the community up there to stay in contact with our alerts because as this tropical wave forms and moves back to the coast we are going to see pretty wild rain falls again and if not more," Commissioner Chelepy said.
Depending on how strong the system projects to be over the tropical Coral Sea, the system is expected to unleash some very heavy rain. "The advice if you live between Cooktown and Mackay, it is tropical cyclone season, just stay up to date and informed with your local warnings."
