Firefighters fear a so-called 'mega-fire' burning north-west of Sydney could threaten a power station and a coal mine
Firefighters fear a so-called"mega-fire" burning north-west of Sydney could threaten a power station and a coal mine as fire crews desperately battle the blaze.
Rural Fire Service crews have managed to contain the blaze outside the Mount Pipe Power Station at Blackmans Flat, north-west of Sydney, but continue to put out embers falling near the site and on the nearby Springvale coal mine and the disused Wallerawang coal mines near Lithgow. Daytime temperatures in NSW and the ACT are expected to exceed 40C from Tuesday through to Saturday while in the western half of the state the mercury is set to top 45C.
