A heatwave is set to spread to NSW and is expected to bring an elevated fire risk to the state, with total fire bans still in place in many regions.

At 9.30pm on Monday there were 118 firegrounds across the state, as two emergency warning fires burned - the Palmers Oaky fire near Capertree and the Kerry Ridge fire in the state's Hunter region.

"Overnight conditions are expected to remain favourable allowing crews to work on containment lines," the Rural Fire Service tweeted. A bushfire burning at Gospers Mountain, northwest of Sydney, was downgraded to a"watch and act" again on Monday evening after up to 20 buildings were feared destroyed when firefighters lost control of a backburn on Sunday.

At 4am, all fires in NSW are now at Advice. 115 fires continue to burn with 59 still to be contained. Firefighers have been working hard overnight protecting homes and backburning to deepen containment lines, ahead of increasing fire dangers.
