fire station had no running water for almost two months, putting firefighters at risk and forcing them to shower outside on cold days, a union has claimed.
The World Health Organisation's International Agency for Research on Cancer declared firefighting a "cancer-causing profession" a year ago, after it escalated the profession from "group 2A" to "group 1" in its study on professions. "Fire and Rescue NSW can confirm that they were aware of a water leak at Mudgee Fire Station and brought in an external contractor to fix the leak," Steer said."That leak is in the process of being fixed with a view towards having the main shower facilities back in working order as soon as possible.READ MORE:
FBEU secretary Leighton Drury said the problem is "not unique" to the Mudgee station and claimed other stations across NSW are not up to scratch as preparations for the upcoming fire season get underway.
