First polls close, counting underway

Polling has closed and counting is now underway in NSW, Victoria, Tasmania and the ACT.With polls to close at 6pm local time, South Australians have an extra half hour to vote with booths to shut their doors at 6.30pm AEDT, followed by Queensland at 7pm AEDT, the NT at 7.30pm AEDT, and finally Western Australia at 9pm AEDT.

We'll probably expect to see results rather soon as at this referendum there's only one paper to count and no preferences to slow things down.This means we'll probably have an indication of the result before Western Australians get their ballots in.You can track the results in the counter at the top of this page and watch special 9News coverage on the Voice at 7pm AEDT on Channel 9 or 9Now.
