ANALYSIS: Five things we learned from Port Adelaide-Geelong
in the first qualifying final.
If you wanted a challenge to test Port Adelaide, you couldn't have asked for much more than what was thrown at them by Geelong. Fierce pressure, being beaten at contested possessions and clearances early on, and a physical contest that left plenty of players sore. Connor Rozee kicked a great goal to put the Power on their way just after half-time. But the standout was Zak Butters — he was fierce, creative, read the play well and was the spark for two key moments in the final quarter.
A lot of that was the result of Port Adelaide pressure and refusal to allow marks in easy positions — but even when the Cats had the momentum and the better of play in the second quarter, they couldn't take their chances.
