Heavy rainfall has caused flooding in Queensland's Western Downs, prompting a flood warning and urging residents to prepare.

A flood warning has been issued for Queensland ’s Western Downs after heavy rainfall swamped the region. The warning, issued Thursday morning by Western Downs Regional Council, advised that the Jandowae Dam spillway had exceeded the moderate flood level of 0.5 meters, leading to flooding in the area. Queensland Police Service (QPS) has urged residents to prepare immediately. The town of Jandowae has experienced heavy rainfall since Tuesday, with 75.2mm recorded on that day.

Seqwater confirmed flood releases from Somerset Dam and Wivenhoe Dam will occur in the next six hours, after announcing the mobilisation of its flood operations centre. “Flood releases will occur from Somerset Dam and Wivenhoe Dam due to persistent rainfall in upper catchments and potential for ongoing rainfall,”the company said on Thursday morning. The Bureau of Meteorology issued a severe thunderstorm warnings on Tuesday, with heavy rainfall predicted in parts of Southeast Queensland. BOM has also warned of more showers and possible thunderstorms in coming days. Queensland Ambulance Service said a car was rescued from floodwaters overnight in the Lockyer Valley. Two adults and a child were safely removed from the vehicle on Brightview Rd at Lockrose about 2am. On Wednesday, South Burnett Regional Council issued another emergency alert for the region, warning of potential flash flooding
