Breaking: Flume has topped the Triple J Hottest 100, with his song Say Nothing featuring MAY-A edging out Eliza Rose and Interplanetary Criminal

Australian DJ and music producer Flume has beaten hundreds of artists to win the 2022 triple j Hottest 100 with his trackIt’s the second time Flume, whose real name is Harley Streten, has won the countdown, having previously taken out the 2016 top spot withThe win makes Streten the second artist to ever win the annual countdown twice, a record which was previously only held by Powderfinger who won in 1999 and 2000.

English DJ and music producers Eliza Rose and Interplanetary Criminal narrowly missed out on the win, with their dance trackAustralian indie-rock band Spacey Jane had an extremely successful top 10 campaign, with their much-loved songSitting Up– a reliable predictor of the countdown – keeping the artist in their top spot for most of the past week.

Fifty-seven songs in the 2022 countdown were by Australian artists, while 23 acts made their debut in the countdown, including Pacific Avenue from Gerringong on the NSW South Coast, whose song“Very emotional, we have all our family and friends hanging out. It’s very special. It feels amazing,” the band told presenters Lucy Smith and Dave Woodhead.

“We just put it [the song] out there, and this is one of the childhood dreams – to actually get it in the Hottest 100.”Music festival favourites and long-time countdown staples the Hilltop Hoods broke a Hottest 100 record when their songfeaturing Montaigne and Tom Thum came in at No.54. The hip-hop group, who made their countdown debut in 2003, are the only artist or group with 23 songs across the countdowns, eclipsing Foo Fighters and Powderfinger who have 22 songs each.

Last year’s title was awarded to childhood-favourites-turned-music-festival-regulars The Wiggles, whose playful rendition of Tame Impala’sbecame the first cover song to top the countdown.
