The former mayor and current councillor of Tasmania's second-largest city has resigned from his position on the Local Government Association of Tasmania, with allegations of unwanted sexual advances against young men unaddressed.

Chief Executive Officer of LGAT, Dion Lester said Cr Gibson resigned from his role late last week for "personal reasons". Cr Gibson has not resigned and has not attended a council meeting since the allegations were published. "As chief executive officer, I am aware that councillors are only entitled to be reimbursed for certain expenses, in accordance with the Local Government Act 1993."
The issue needs to be addressed immediately, Cr Walker adds, to prevent it from occurring in the future.
