Former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin has lodged an appeal against his conviction and sentence for the murder of George Floyd, arguing the judge in his case abused his discretion and made multiple errors during the trial.
A jury found Chauvin guilty of unintentional second-degree murder, third-degree murder and second-degree manslaughter in the death of Mr Floyd.
The 82-page appeal asks the court to reverse the conviction and hold a new trial in a new venue or re-sentence Chauvin. The report formed part of an investigation by Minnesota's Department of Human Rights, which concluded that city officials had allowed the city's police to persist in practices that violate the state's human rights act, which prohibits discrimination in public services.
