Jack Lopresti, a former Conservative Party deputy chair, has joined the Ukrainian military to support the country's fight against Russia . Lopresti, who represented the Filton and Bradley Stoke constituency in South Gloucestershire from 2010 to 2024, is actively engaged in various support roles for the Ukrainian unit. His responsibilities include foreign relations and diplomacy duties, weapons procurement, and working with veterans and charities.
Lopresti's ex-wife, Dame Andrea Jenkyns, a former Conservative minister who defected to Reform UK after losing her parliamentary seat in 2024, revealed on X that she and her son were unaware of his decision to join the unit. She wished him a safe return. The 55-year-old former lawmaker told The Independent that he is based in Kyiv but frequently travels across Ukraine. In the past week alone, he has visited Kharkiv and Poltava in the country's east. Lopresti expressed deep honor and privilege in serving the Ukrainian military and assisting the Ukrainian people in any way possible. He emphasized that their fight extends beyond their own freedom and sovereignty, serving as a defense for all. Lopresti previously served in the Territorial Army as a gunner with 266 Commando Battery, Royal Artillery, from 2007. He later served as a mobilized reservist with 29 Commando RA for a year and was deployed to Helmand province in Afghanistan. While the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office advises against British citizens fighting in Ukraine, citing potential prosecution under UK legislation, there are no documented cases of Britons being prosecuted for engaging in the conflict. In October 2023, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy signed a bill permitting foreign volunteers in the International Legion to serve as officers.

Trump Ends Security Detail for Pompeo and HookFormer Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and former White House aide Michael Hook have had their government security detail revoked by former President Donald Trump. This decision comes after Trump ended protection for former national security advisor John Bolton earlier this week. Trump cited the ongoing risk to everyone involved in the 2020 drone strike that killed Iranian General Qassem Suleimani and the need to prevent an endless cycle of government protection for former officials. Republican senators have urged Trump to reconsider, warning that it could deter qualified individuals from serving in future administrations.
