The Werribee aged care home is bracing for further positive test results after all residents and staff were tested on Wednesday and Thursday.
Four staff from a Werribee aged care home have tested positive to COVID-19 days after a 90-year-old resident was diagnosed with the deadly virus, with the home’s director of operations describing the situation in Victoria as "frightening".
In the last couple of days positive cases have been linked to at least 10 aged care homes across Melbourne.Leading Aged Services Australia CEO Sean Rooney said the number of aged care homes with infections was increasing. "The clear and present danger persists," Mr Rooney said. "This is a matter of life and death."
He said all residents were in their rooms, the home was closed to visitors until further notice and staff were instructed not to enter any other aged care homes. When Ms Santos heard on the news that a resident of Glendale had been diagnosed with COVID-19 this week she panicked. "I called Glendale and it was so hard to get through – the phone line was jammed,” she said.
