High traffic to the airline’s website caused a short crash, a spokeswoman said, amid a rush to redeem new benefits intended as an apology for recent issues.
got off to a rocky start on Monday morning as a website crash prevented frequent flyers from accessing new benefits meant to say sorry for the airline’s operational woes.
The rewards included a 12-month status extension to “silver” frequent flyer members and above, a $50 discount to frequent flyer members, extra lounge invitations for “gold” tier members and more available classic reward seats. The Qantas spokeswoman said the frequent flyer portion of the website was the only part to crash on Monday, with customers still able to book and/or change flights, and that it was back up and running by 11:30 AEST.
