Cat said the food, which varies from chicken cacciatore to spaghetti bolognese to stir fries, was 'pretty good' and the fact it came from Parliament was 'a good idea, a nice gesture'.

International student Alston Furtado, 22, gets seven meals a week from Parliament via St Peter’s Eastern Hill Anglican Church.Mr Furtado, said he was ‘‘in a really bad spot’’ for a few days in March, and living on an apple or a potato a day after not finding a job while he studies for a master's degree in engineering management at RMIT University.
He is not eligible for government benefits and his father couldn't send money because his business in Mumbai had no income because of the pandemic. Mr Furtado was so grateful for the meals from Parliament that he is now a volunteer packer at St Peter’s.The most important news, analysis and insights delivered to your inbox at the start and end of each day.Robina Bradley, CEO of St Mary’s House of Welcome in Fitzroy, said Parliament's kitchens was giving St Mary’s 550 to 600 meals a day, most of which go to homeless clients being temporarily housed in 22 hotels.
Ms Bradley said the homeless ‘‘are very grateful for the food, for the fact that someone cares about them and reaches out to them each day. It’s really important’’.
