A Labor attack ad targeting Liberal MP Gladys Liu over her national security credentials has been slammed as “desperate, dishonest (and) racist” by Treasurer Josh Frydenberg.

Ms Liu has represented the ultra-marginal seat of Chisholm – where she won by less than 0.6 per cent of the vote – since 2019.

Offer ends 31 October, 2022“She spread fake news on Chinese messaging apps, she and the Liberal Party had to give back $300,000 because the donors were deemed a national security risk, and her campaign tried to trick voters with election day signage in the colours of the Australian Electoral Commission.

Mr Frydenberg – whose own electorate of Kooyong borders Chisholm - lashed the new campaign as a “scare tactic” targeting the nearly 20 per cent of Chinese Australians living in the electorate. He also said the attack ad came in contrast with revelations that deputy Labor leader Richard Marles shared a copy of a speech he was to deliver in Beijing to the Chinese embassy in Canberra.
