Hundreds of people with Covid-19 spent Christmas Day in NSW thinking they were free of the virus, adding to the state’s climbing infections

Residents queue up inside their cars for PCR tests at the St Vincent's Bondi Beach Covid-19 drive-through testing clinic. The hospital revealed on Sunday that it had mistakenly told 400 people they were negative.

Adding to the state’s coronavirus concerns are hundreds of people receiving falsely negative test results on Christmas Day. NSW posted another daily record of cases on Sunday with 6,394 new infections, a slight uptick from Christmas Day despite 40,000 fewer tests. The tally does not appear to include more than 400 people who initially received a negative result on Christmas Day but were then notified they had tested positive on Boxing Day, which if included would push the national tally to over 10,000 cases.
