Victoria must definitely get on top of the latest COVID-19 outbreaks but as a whole Australia is in good shape as a country in batting the virus says Sky News host Chris Kenny.

He said some perspective should be retained despite the fact Victoria recorded an extra 127 cases of coronavirus overnight and a man in his 90s and a man in his 60s died in hospital after testing positive to COVID-19. It comes as the borders between New South Wales and Victoria are set to be shut in a bid to stem the spread of the deadly virus.

Mr Kenny said around the country, there are 35 people in hospital and six in intensive care. “Remember we spend billions getting the critical care bed numbers up to 7,500 in order to make sure we could cope with the pandemic,” he said. He said while the country appears to be in “good shape” with handling the virus it is “disappointing to see more borders being closed”.

We didn’t have other global issues? We didn’t have things like the GFC? … There are plenty of things that have happened in the last 100 years. This pandemic is important but it’s not seismic that it rewrites history.”\n\n“We’re talking about an opposition seat which has been held by less than 2 per cent, it’s on 0.9 per cent.
