Local councils would get money directly from the federal government as a reward for approving more and higher-density housing under a proposal to help poorer and younger Australians get a foothold in the property market.

The OECD found ownership rates had fallen across every generation for several years, but in every case, people on lower incomes had suffered the most. “A big problem is NIMBYs who don’t want more people living where they live.
