Forged in a furnace at over 1,000 degrees Celsius from molten glass, the delicate and beautiful creations of artist Keith Dougall are more than simple ornaments — they are gifts of hope.
His 9-year-old daughter Eva has been regularly visiting the hospital for the past four years after she was diagnosed with a rare brain condition called Landau Kleffner syndrome.
"When she first got the symptoms … she couldn't talk anymore, she lost the ability to speak and she lost the ability to hear," he says. "I had an experience of what it was like to be in the hospital for long periods of time, for the waiting that people go through, the uncertainty that they experience."
Around 110 people live in the village run by Fusion Australia, a not-for-profit Christian youth and community organisation.
