Glasgow saw more than 200 deaths related to alcohol last year.

The chairwoman of Glasgow’s Alcohol and Drugs Partnership has vowed to tackle “alcohol harms” as more than 200 people lost their lives to drink in the city last year.

The number of deaths in Scotland overall rose by 2% last year with 1276 people losing their life to alcohol, 31 more than in 2021; the highest number since 2008. While male deaths continue to account for around two thirds of alcohol-specific deaths and remained unchanged at 836, female deaths increased by 31 to 440.NRS found that after adjusting for age the mortality rate was higher than the Scottish average in the Western Isles, Greater Glasgow and Clyde and Lanarkshire health board areas.

“The Glasgow City ADP continues to work with all of our colleagues to tackle alcohol harms, deliver high quality treatment and mitigate the health inequalities that contribute so significantly to these deaths.”
