Glasgow will begin issuing fines to drivers who park on pavements from January 29, 2024. The new rules, authorized by the Scottish Government, will also target double-parked vehicles and those parked next to dropped kerbs. Warning notices will be issued initially to help drivers adjust. All parking fines in Glasgow are now £100, reduced to £50 if paid within 14 days.

Penalty charge notices can be issued against vehicles parked on the pavement on most of the city’s streets under new powers.

IT issues have delayed the roll-out of the ban, which was allowed by the Scottish Government from December 2023. Edinburgh introduced the measures in January last year. Remaining streets are now subject to a further phase of assessment to check whether other measures to control parking are appropriate before an exemption can be considered.
